Ken Lewis' Mixing Night Studios

My name is Ken Lewis and I make records, from song concept thru mastering, from songwriting to production to mixing. I have 2 Grammy statues, 80+ Billboard #1’s, over 100 Gold records, and over 50 billion streams. Many of those credits happened since i built this studio. I needed a great studio that sonically inspires me to not only do the work but maintain a high level of creativity and inspiration. That’s a tall order. Mike delivered.

Music is so much more than sonics. I spend most of my life in one room, the vibe had to be everything, for both me and the artists, and I needed a studio that i could accomplish Grammy level work. When Mike and i set out to design Studio A (now officially a Grammy winning mix studio), Mike was instrumental in assessing the space we had to work with, and crafting a studio design that was both very functional and also the single coolest studio I’ve ever worked in. We did it. ATMOS 9.1.6 was important, which also meant minimal reflective surfaces, and lots of absorption. But i wanted a gigantic projection system! Mike designed specifically for my space and creative desires.

We found acoustic projection fabric to cover FabricWall. I can now place myself anywhere in the universe or beyond while i work. The projection, almost floor to ceiling, wraps 40 feet, beyond my peripheral and it completely changes the way i work. Artists are not only inspired, i project their lyrics on the wall in front of them as they sing, surrounded by whatever imagery inspires them.

Mike was not my only quote, but if i went with the other guy, i might be dead now. Mike had to build a strong false ceiling (detached garage) to support the weight of Atmos speakers, lighting, and a cloud hanging. The other quote was content to use existing cross beams that were far too weak to support the ceiling. Mike saved not only my health, but a lot of money.

Mike built most of my studio by himself, super impressive. He also liasoned with all contractors (ac, electric, drywall), making my life easy, and making sure we got fair prices for quality work. The result is a space I’ll be very happy making music in for decades to come.

If you would like to talk with me about Mike’s work, feel free to email me any time and we’ll set up a chat, Ken@KenLewis.com You can pepper me with any questions you want.

Sincerely,

Ken Lewis
